How Stem Cell Research Will Make A Difference Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:30pm The TimesCenter 242 West 41st Street
The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) will hold its fifth annual spring public outreach event on Thursday, March 25 at The TimesCenter in New York City. The event will bring together leading stem cell scientists with patient advocates to explain the latest developments in the stem cell field with a focus on the current efforts to apply stem cell research to finding new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease.
Panelists include: Dr. Sam Gandy, Associate Director of the Mount Sinai Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and Chairman Emeritus of the National Medical and Scientific Advisory Council of the Alzheimer’s Association; Greg Simon, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Policy at Pfizer; Dr. Howard Fillit, Founding Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Aging (ISOA) and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF); William Haseltine, Chairman and CEO of Haseltine Associates and former Chairman and CEO of Human Genome Sciences; Dr. Kevin C. Eggan, Chief Scientific Officer of The New York Stem Cell Foundation and Assistant Professor of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at The Harvard Stem Cell Institute; and Susan L. Solomon, Chief Executive Officer of The New York Stem Cell Foundation.
Ceci Connolly, Health Politics Reporter at The Washington Post, will moderate the panel.
The event is free and open to the public.
In past years, NYSCF’s spring public outreach panels have focused on stem cell research in relation to Diabetes, the importance of human embryonic stem cell research, and the political controversy surrounding this groundbreaking science. Previous notable panel participants include: Nobel Laureate and President of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Harold Varmus; ten-time Olympic medalist, Gary Hall, Jr.; artist, Chuck Close; actor, Michael J. Fox; and patient advocate and daughter of the late Christopher Reeve, Alexandra Reeve. The 2009 Panel was our best attended yet and sold out with 378 attendees.
